The Battle of the Big Bands and Doo Wop Radio is back!
The station founded by the son of former Georgia Governor, the Late ED Rivers, has reclaimed its mark by programming at their audience’s request. “Still family controlled today, the Rivers believe this is the right way!”

In the face of today’s Radio adversity, the little station, with the Big Cannon Blast, dare’s to face the financial odds, in-order to bring Atlanta’s listeners the sound they requested but can’t get anywhere else!!! “The Sound of the Standards, Big Band and Beyond ” The format that FM Radio Stations avoid, for lack of listener to income ratio and other AM’s use just long enough to build an audience and then switch off for proven Syndicated programs, or direct language programs.
Well not at WGUN, “The Big Gun” owned by the family of, Georgia’s, Late Gov. Ed Rivers, run today by his grand-daughter. The Big Gun has been servicing Atlanta’s needs ever since her father, Dee Rivers, of Rivers Radio, made application for the station back in 1934.
Our Music Shows run from a four hour, standard show called the Good Old Days on Sunday, a show that logs up to 70 calls a show, to an Hour of Jazz after lunch, followed by 4 hrs of hits from the hits of the 50’s “Doo Wop Dreaming” a show that logs over 102 calls a day. Then we have a Sinatra hour, the battle of the bands, the hits and the calls keep pouring in!!! So much so that the Big Gun now offers 7 live hours a night of the standards and 8 live hours each Saturday and Sunday night of the standards.
It’s the first time in the history of the Big Gun that we get steadily, over 1,000 calls a week from new and old listeners, telling us how much they love what we are playing and please don’t stop! If we can get one point across to our large new listener base, the thing our listeners for over 40 years already know, “we don’t sell out” our sound is here to stay, the people have spoken and we have delivered, that will not change at the Big Gun!!!
